A good way to furnish a home can be through furniture rental. However, there are some drawbacks to using this plan. In certain circumstances, however, this is the best way, and often the only feasible way to furnish a home or even just a room.
The price to purchase items using the rent-to-own plan is much more than if purchased outright. But, if money is limited and one desires to have certain items, it's a good way to get it. If it is possible to wait until the cash price is saved up, the cost will be much more reasonable. However, if it is desired to have it sooner, then it may well be worth the added cost.
There are a number of reasons that it might be more feasible to rent than purchase outright. One reason is if the move to a new place is just for a short time. It would be better to rent a minimum of furnishings for that period of time. This would save on moving costs and avoid having to try to sell what was purchased. If, for example, a job requires a limited period of time, the furnishings can be left at the original home and rented items used at the temporary residence.

Another reason to obtain furniture by renting it is when one is not sure of color or decor they desire, and they want to avoid costly mistakes. A cheaper furniture can be obtained and used for a period of time until the proper style and color is decided upon. This can avoid being less than satisfied with the selection. Though not all styles are available, the color and general style is usually available.
A very brief rental is possible if one only needs the items a short time, such as for a party or guest visit. The items can be rented for just a week, or a few weeks. If a guest bedroom is needed, renting the items for the room will not be very expensive and will serve the purpose well.
Often when one moves into a new area, a temporary home is rented until the person can decide the best area to live. Often, a desirable home cannot be found right away, so a rented home is used for a time. If new furniture is needed, it may be desirable to rent for a few rooms or just a few items that are essential. When the permanent home is bought, then the home can be furnished as desired with purchased furniture.
Sometimes when one shares a residence by renting to a room mate, the type and style of items are not the same as a new resident might desire. Also, the current person, who may stay for an extended time, might have definite tastes. Renting for a period of time may be advisable until a long-term resident is found. This will make finding a room mate much easier.
When considering whether to rent or buy, all things should be considered. Weigh the options, costs, etc., then decide which one to do. If another person is involved, such as a tenant, or a spouse, let them help make the decision. Just know that the cost will be higher for a rental. Consider the total cost based on the amount of time the items will be used.
